In a courageous stand against the use of deepfake technology, actress Rashmika Mandanna took to social media to address the distressing issue of a video created by using her image. Lending their support to the actress was a host of celebrities who shared the viral clip and expressed their shock and horror about the use of the tech in deceiving the public.
After Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan offered the actress his support and called for legal action against the makers of the clip, a host of other stars also tweeted their support for Mandanna.Actor Naga Chaitanya took to his handle to say, "It’s truly disheartening to see how technology is being misused and the thought of what this can progress to in the future is even scarier. Action has to be taken and some kind of law has to be enforced to protect people who have and will be a victim to this. Strength to you."

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada also took to her handle to say, "Now a DeepFake Rashmika video surfaces and I just saw her Instagram story where she genuinely looks disturbed - In a country where women’s bodies are exploited everyday, Deep Fake is going to be the next weapon they use to target and harass and blackmail girls to extort, blackmail and rape; Their clueless families in one small village or town is not going to understand when the so called maanam / or honour is at stake."

Reacting to the post, Radhika said, "Thank you @Chinmayi for creating awareness on this hoping strict action is taken and regulated guidelines are put into place."
Several fans also came to the actress' defence and pleaded with fans not to share the clip. Others helped spread awareness about the Deepfake technology used in the clip and called for strict laws over AI. Reacting to the same, the actress wrote, "I agree and it’s scary but having the leaders we have today, the only hope is that we as a community bring a change."

The video, which has gained widespread attention, has raised concerns not only for Rashmika, but also for the misuse of technology. Replying to the many posts that came her way, Rashmika wrote, "Thank you for speaking up on this."
In an emotional message, the actress shared, Rashmika wrote, "I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly extremely scary, not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused."
The actress went on to express her gratitude for her family, friends, and well-wishers who provide her with a support system, adding, "But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how I could ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft."

The incident has also reignited discussions about the need for a legal and regulatory framework to combat deepfake technology in India.
The deepfake video, initially circulated on Instagram, has caused a significant stir on social media platforms, with many expressing concerns about the implications and consequences of such manipulation.
After strong backlash, the clip was reportedly taken down from social media sites.
