SINGER Sia has defended Paris Jackson after there was backlash to her "lesbian Jesus" movie.
The Chandelier star tweeted her love for the 22-year-old daughter of the late Michael Jackson, after nearly 300,000 people signed a petition calling for Paris' new film Habit - in which she plays Jesus - to never see the light of day.
"Dear @ParisJackson. I love you, keep going. I believe you are a good person," Sia tweeted on Wednesday.
The film was announced in April, and stars Bella Thorne as an obsessive young woman with a Jesus fetish. who finds herself masquerading as a nun to escape a drug deal gone wrong.
But the news that Paris, the daughter of late pop star Michael Jackson, will be starring as the son of God has left some Christians incredibly mad, who also believe her portrayal will see Jesus become a "lesbian."
The Change.org petition reads: "A new blasphemous Hollywood film is predicted to come out soon depicting Jesus as a lesbian woman.
"The film Habit stars Paris Jackson who plays the role of 'lesbian Jesus'.
"Distributors haven’t picked it up as of yet, so let’s please spread awareness and wake people up to the Christianophobic garbage that is spread nowadays, but is somehow accepted and praised by society."
No production notes released so far suggest Paris' Jesus will be a lesbian.
The petition is also addressed to Warner Bros and Lionsgate, although neither studio has signed on to work on the movie yet.
The film will star Paris, and the first promo image revealed her Jesus has long tousled hair and a nose ring.
Directed by Janell Shirtcliff, the film also includes Bush rocker Gavin Rossdale, singer Josie Ho, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart from the Kills, and model Andreja Pejic.
Prior to Habit, Paris has been mostly focusing on launching a singing career following the 2009 death of her pop-star father.
Paris - whose mom is Debbie Rowe - told Remix it was her boyfriend Gabriel Glenn who inspired her to pursue music professionally.
She said: “Gabriel is my muse; I owe a lot to him.
She went on: “I started writing around 13 when I bought myself a guitar. I didn’t really start sharing it or recording it until I met Gabriel.”
