Toronto indie-pop artist LØLØ might have received her big break from TikTok, but her unique take on songwriting is shifting the musical landscape for the better.

The musician made a name for herself by taking top-charting tunes and rewriting the lyrics to be the opposite perspective of the song’s subject while maintaining the integrity of the song. Now, the breakthrough star is rapidly growing a fan base for her storytelling abilities and distinctive vocals.

“I started doing covers because I thought it was easy and a fun thing. Then everyone’s like ‘Whoa, this is so impressive,’” shared the emerging artist in an exclusive Celeb Secrets interview. “I was shocked to see how many people were liking it.”

After gaining traction on the social media platform, LØLØ landed a publishing deal with APG and got to work producing content of her very own. To kick off 2021 and the partnership strong, she released her first single called “Lonely & Pathetic.” Now,  LØLØ has dropped a relatable banger that doesn’t sugarcoat what she’s feeling.

“I would say this song is the most fun pop-rock that I have released before,” says LØLØ about her recently released single “death wish.” “I am really excited for my listeners to hear that and also the lyrics are just kind of Kooky in a cool way.”

The buzzworthy ballad conveys a story of how she can’t seem to keep a goldfish or plant alive. However, this is not a surface-level song – as she grew older, she realized an unfortunate pattern in her life, where she became her worst enemy in relationships. LØLØ began to self-sabotage the minute she felt like she was falling in love with someone. So in a crazy and wicked way, “Death Wish” is a love story that many could resonate with.

“I was 5-years-old when I accidentally killed Goldy, my first (of many) goldfish. I remember being absolutely heartbroken, knowing that it was MY FAULT that my new friend was gone forever,” says the artist as she reflects back to her childhood. “Ever since then, I’ve noticed quite an unfortunate pattern in my life. When I was a kid, it was goldfish, but now that I’m all ‘grown-up,’ my knack for killing things has escalated to relationships. Every time I start to feel like I might be in love, it always ends up just like Goldy – in the toilet,” she adds.

Effortlessly, the singer took the danceable track and brought it to life in her Avril Lavigne and Green Day-inspired music video. “I remember I used to watch the Green Day music videos, where they were just really performing and I always thought that was so cool,” says the musicians about her early 2000s’- style video. “I was like we need to somehow have a fish funeral because when I was little, ‘Goldie’ is actually the name of my first goldfish ever – we did a fish funeral in my front yard and I was like ‘this needs to be brought back into the video somehow.”

The Canadian artist continued to walk CS through the creative process behind the COVID-friendly music video that she filmed with her real-life band. “I had the idea to do something really simple because I knew I couldn’t really do anything more than that, but it ended up being dope.”

To go along with the fish funeral, you will witness each member of the band experimenting with different instruments, which casually turned into a massive plant fight. As you listen and watch the unhinged video – you may be surprised that the punk-rock hit was originally penned to be backed with an acoustic guitar.

“It was originally going to be an acoustic song,” says LØLØ. “Like me and an acoustic guitar. We were in the studio, we had the song and then we were like ‘let’s just mess around with it.’

While you get to know the breakthrough artist by listening to “Death Wish,” expect to hear another side of the singer and songwriter in the next few months. LØLØ teased Celeb Secrets with details about her forthcoming single “Die Without You” which is set to drop in June and an EP planned for Fall of 2021.

If you are a plant mom who tends to overwater or someone in a sticky relationship, turn up the volume and listen to “Death Wish” and recognize that you are not alone.
