The critics and style wizards have been deliberating hard, but they’ve finally revealed the best dressed celebrity for 2022. And it’s a familiar face.
Tatler unveiled their best dressed list for 2022, celebrating the glamorous and enviable outfits of both women and men. The magazine tipped their hat to those embracing 1980s nostalgia and the essence of “ostentatious 1880s America”.
Coming out on top was none other than the Duchess of Cambridge, 40, whose style was defined as “Sovereign superstar” - in particular highlighting the Alessandra Rich polka dot dress she wore to Ascot earlier this summer. Tatler reported: “It was a look that recalled Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and ’80s-era Princess Diana, one that paid no heed to the sweltering heat on race day.”

Making up the top three most stylish celebs were Vimbai Masiyiwa, University College London graduate and CEO of Batoka Hospitality, who was praised for her “all-out glamour”, and Donna Air and Damian Aspinall’s daughter, Freya Aspinall, who’s also taken heed of the resurging nostalgia trends to be dubbed a “‘00s Dior addict”.
There were other familiar faces in both the top ten and entire list of 25, including Made in Chelsea star Sophie Hermann, one of the original ‘It girls’ Tamara Beckwith Veroni, Bridgerton and Sex Education star Simone Ashley, and breakout star of Heartstopper, actor Joe Locke.
According to Tatler, the best dressed male celebrity of 2022 was Chelsea footballer Conor Gallagher, coming in fifth place. To replicate the 22 year old’s style, the magazine suggested “Relaxed, refined Fendi and Gucci pieces make Conor’s downtime style effortless – hopefully, winning the World Cup will be, too.”
Heartstopper’s Joe Locke was catapulted onto our screens thanks to Netflix. He told Tatler the film character who influences his style is Anne Hathaway’s Andrea Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada, saying: “Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prada. Look back two years and I had no fashion sense, like her.”
The Duchess of Cambridge wasn't the only member of the Royal family to make the list. She beat cousin-in-law Princess Beatrice, who landed in 11th place. Princess Diana's nephew and son of Charles Spencer, Earl Spencer, Louis, the Viscount Althorp also made an appearance, coming directly after Princess Beatrice in 12th.
Kate Middleton, 40, wowed the nation during her nuptials to Prince William back in 2011 when she wore a £355,000 Alexander McQueen wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton. It featured a nine-foot train made from handmade lace. The Duchess has become a style icon for many over the past years, impressing with her effortlessly flawless looks.
