The cast of I’m a Celebrity 2020 has been confirmed, and it includes Paralympian Hollie Arnold.
The wait is finally over, and I’m a Celebrity 2020 is almost here. The new series starts tonight (November 15) at 9pm on ITV, and a brand new selection of celebrities will be entering 'the jungle.'
Apart from the fact this year the jungle will actually be a castle in Wales.
To comply with Covid-19 restrictions and the current lockdown, producers have swapped the Australian jungle for the Welsh Countryside, based around Gwrych Castle.
One of the celebrities taking part is Hollie Arnold, a Paralympian athlete, and here’s everything you need to know about her, including how she lost her arm.
Who is Hollie Arnold MBE?
Hollie Arnold MBE is a British parasport athlete.
The 26-year-old sportswoman holds an impressive set of accolades including Paralympic, World, Commonwealth and European Gold medals in the F46 javelin event.
The Paralympic gold medallist and F46 javelin thrower was the youngest member of the Great Britain athletics team at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, when she was 14 years old.
Arnold, who has a congenital limb deficiency, took up the sport aged 11 at Cleethorpes Athletics Club in Grimsby.
She won her gold medal at the 2016 summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro with a world record throw of 43.01 metres.
Hollie beat her record two years later, throwing an impressive 44.43 metres.
Arnold said: “I am really looking forward to meeting people.
“They won’t know me and so there is the feeling of being an underdog but hopefully by sharing my stories, people will get to understand what I have achieved.”
How did Hollie Arnold lose her arm?
Hollie competes in the F46 Javelin category, and people in this category either have a single below or above the elbow amputation.
However, in her I'm a Celebrity interview, Hollie revealed that she didn’t actually have her arm amputated, she was born with only one arm.
According to reports doctors discovered that Hollie was missing the arm below her right elbow when on a scan when her mother was 20 weeks pregnant.
Hollie’s mum told the Daily Mail : “It was a massive shock. I was referred to another hospital for a high definition scan as the doctors were worried that something else would also be wrong with the baby.
"Luckily they discovered she was perfectly normal, apart from her missing arm, and they couldn’t explain why it had happened.”
She was fitted with a prosthetic arm at just three months old, but as she got older she preferred not to use it.
Then, after she competed in Beijing in 2008, she was made a new arm by Rehab Prosthetics, which hugely improved her balance and confidence.
Speaking to ITV about her I’m a Celebrity appearance, Hollie revealed that she doesn’t want her appearance on the show to be all about her disability.
“I don’t want it to be about my disability,” she explains. “Yes I have a missing arm and I’m in the Paralympics but I want to show people nothing stops me and it shouldn’t stop anyone else,” she said.
The new series of I’m a Celebrity starts on Sunday, November 15 on ITV at 9pm.
